Kathy Bates may have more reasons to celebrate these days after her movie “Revolutionary Road’ got major Golden Globe nominations and after she was given a clean bill of health. Bates was secretly battling ovarian cancer and it was only last Tuesday when she announced that she had been in total remission for 5 and a half years already making her cancer-free. The 60-year old Oscar winner said she kept her condition under wraps because she wanted to do it on her own without worrying about anything else except dealing with her chemotherapy.
She however regrets not going public with her condition as she might have been able to help others during that time. Early detection is the key to fighting this type of cancer and she is doing her part by becoming active in the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance. The “Misery” star is not miserable at all now and has signed up as spokeswoman for the Ovarian Cancer Foundation. She said she was lucky she learned about her ovarian cancer early so she is now going public educating women about the symptoms of ovarian cancer.
