Sharon Stone fluffed her lines at a luxury hotel opening speech – getting the country Azerbaijan confused with Chaka Khan.
The actress was hired as one of several celebrity guests to speak at the launch of the Mardan Palace in Antalya, Turkey, Europe’s most expensive resort.
But the Basic Instinct actress left the crowd stunned when she admitted she had not heard of Turkey’s ally.
Then she began shouting out the name of soul diva Chaka Khan instead, according to reports.
A US paper reports: “While reading off a teleprompter, Stone stumbled over the word ‘Azerbaijan’ and shrieked to the crowd, ‘What is that? I can’t pronounce this?’ before inexplicably yelling, ‘Chaka Khan! Chaka Khan!’”
Stone was reportedly paid $1.5 million for the appearance on Saturday.
Stars including Mariah Carey, Tom Jones and Paris Hilton were all paid the same fee to show up, it has been claimed.
A representative for Stone, 51, was unavailable for comment.
