Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay has been blasted for allegedly making sexist comments and comparing an Australian female news anchor to a pig.
The cook reportedly took pot shots at Tracy Grimshaw during one of his cooking demos in Melbourne, leaving mothers and children attending the show shocked.
Ramsay and Grimshaw had appeared together Channel 9’s A Current Affair the night before and were mildly flirtatious during a lightly humourous interview.
But the next day, Ramsay was comparing a picture of ‘pig woman’ and Miss Piggy to Grimshaw. The photo Ramsay held up to the cooking show audience was reportedly of a naked woman on her hands and knees with multiple breasts.
Ramsay told the audience: “I didn’t realise the swine flu situation was that bad until I saw this.
“For any guys out there, stay away from pigs like that. That’s for my journalist friend again.”
Ramsay was reported as saying that Grimshaw also needed to see ‘Simon Cowell’s botox doctor’.
He also allegedly said the Queen had so many birthday holidays she put gifts ‘on f****** eBay’, and Buckingham Palace’s food was ’s***’.
Many in the audience at the Good Food and Wine Event complained, calling his comments sexist. Mandy Saunders, who was at the food expo with her two children and elderly mother, said: “I couldn’t believe what I was seeing and hearing – it was disgusting,.
“The show is meant for families. That was way out of order.”
Ramsay later said was non plussed by the outcry, adding he greately admired Grimshaw as a professional journalist.
He said: “Christ, this is a resilient, tenacious country full of excitement and buoyancy. I never thought of anyone in Australia having to be wrapped up in cotton wool.
“I’d be horrified if I’d offended anyone”
Ramsay said he would also speak to Grimshaw, adding: “She’s a pro. When you have a bit of banter . . . it’s by no means there to upset anybody, especially her.
“The sexist thing, that was the thing that upset me.”
