Michael Douglas’s son was under surveillance for three years before he was arrested earlier this week for allegedly dealing crystal meth.
Cameron Douglas, 30, used the code “bath salts” to refer to the drug – which authorities claim he had been selling “pounds” of since 2006.
According to a criminal complaint, it is claimed Douglas – an actor and occasional DJ – sold drugs and shipped them via FedEx to his customers across the United States.
He was also allegedly caught on video referring to the deadly drug as “pastry”.
Douglas was arrested at the posh Gansevoort Hotel in New York on July 28 by a DEA [Drug Enforcement Administration] task force following an undercover sting operation.
News of the arrest did not emerge until earlier this week.
He had been staying at the hotel, courtesy of his father, for some time, possibly after he was evicted from his Los Angeles home for not paying his rent.
When authorities barged in, they found the place a mess and said Douglas was “very strung out,” sources said.
An informant had told investigators that Douglas was the middleman in a deal to move a half-pound of crystal meth from California to New York to sell. But the drugs were intercepted before they got to New York.
