Hollywood stars such as Richard D Jenkins have been visiting the holy city of Varanasi in India.

The spot is considered to be the most-sacred spot on earth by many Hindus and it is claimed Jenkins, who starred in the movie The Visitor, offered diya, a lamp, to the holy river Ganga.

He also visited the Ganga arti, which is a ceremony performed in adoration of a deity and was said to be moved by the city.

It is claimed Billy Crudup, who appeared in Almost Famous, and Emmy-nominated star Ryan Murphy accompanied Jenkins to Varanasi.

All the actors were in India to film the movie Eat, Pray, Love, which also stars Julia Roberts.

Acclaimed Hindu statesman Rajan Zed welcomed the Hollywood stars to Varanasi and said that as the actors are able to travel the world, they should familiarise themselves with different religions.
