Film-maker Roman Polanski has been granted bail by a Swiss court after he was held in jail for sex crimes.
The 76-year-old director fled the country in 1978, after he pleaded guilty to having unlawful sex with a 13-year-old girl.
Polanski has been trying to dodge sentencing ever since and was held in Zurich after he flew in from France to pick up an award, at the city’s film festival two months ago.
His bail had reportedly been set at $4.5m (£2.7m) and stipulated that he had to be kept under house arrest and electronic monitoring at his Swiss chalet.
It is claimed that the ruling will not affect the Swiss government’s current assessment about whether he should be extradited to the US.
