Hollywood actor Matt Damon has revealed that he was not at all surprised to discover that he is related to his best friend Ben Affleck.

The New England Historic Genealogical Society recently revealed that a study of Damon and Affleck’s family trees showed the pair are 10th cousins once removed.

Damon and Affeck, 37, share a common ancestor – bricklayer William Knowlton who reportedly came to the US from England in the 16th century.

The Bourne Identity star, 39, said: “I always felt like we were kin. He always felt like kin. I remember when I got that story on my phone, I emailed it to him and, at the same time, he was emailing me.”

Damon added that he couldn’t help but feel envious when he found out that Affleck is also a distant relation of US President Barack Obama.

He said: “And then, it turns out, Ben is even related to Barack Obama!”
