Set your DVR’s, Tivo’s WHATEVER! THIS IS GOING TO BE LEGENDARY!
The big Barack Obama fundraiser on September 16th, has an new headliner.
According to news reports, Barbra Streisand herself is set to preform for the Presidential hopeful, at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Los Angeles.
This even is also expected to be Obama’s final push to raise enough funds for his presidential bid.
The event will start at 5:00pm with a dinner for approximately 250 people at a mansion in Beverly Hills.
Reports claim that tickets will be on sale for the very affordable price of $28,500!!!
After that, the presidential hopeful will attend the party at the Beverly Wilshire hotel, which will be followed by Streisand’s performance. It will be co-hosted by the DreamWorks Team (Steven Spielberg, Jeffrey Katzenberg and David Geffen) and will include Andy Spahn, a political consultant.
Tickets for that event are sold separately. They cost only $2,500 per person.
Streisand has always been a big supporter for the Democrats. Back in 2000 she sang at a concert for Al Gore and again in 2004 for John Kerry.
Sheryl Crow is giving away free music — a tactic she calls the “Tupperware” party approach to inspiring young people to vote.
The Grammy Award-winning singer announced a plan Wednesday to give a digital copy of her album Detours to the first 50,000 people who register three friends to vote.
She said: “I hope people wake up and emotionally engage in issues,” .
Crow’s giveaway is a kickoff to Rock the Vote’s voter registration drive. She is also offering a free download of her politically charged song Gasoline to anyone who logs onto the Rock the Vote website or anyone on the group’s mailing list, said the organization’s executive director Heather Smith.
Crow, 46, was one of the founding artists of Rock the Vote 18 years ago. She said the Detours album fits perfectly into the group’s cause since the lyrics touch on topics such as adoption, breast cancer, the war in Iraq, the environment and Hurricane Katrina.
“It’s about the issues that everyone’s talking about, but there’s a lot of hope,” Crow said. “At this moment in my life, writing about anything else would be uninteresting and impossible because I feel such urgency.”
Crow, who has advocated for environmental, health and humanitarian causes, said her fans know where she stands politically. But in this voter registration campaign she’s concerned only for the future of her 1-year-old son, Wyatt, and the future of American democracy.
Crow suggested that more musicians should use their music to promote issues that affect Americans. She said she was inspired by pop musicians from the 1960s and 70s, when political songs were performed by Edwin Starr, Buffalo Springfield, Marvin Gaye and Peter Paul & Mary.
“There was healthy competition among artists to create art that was commercial and political at the same time,” Crow said.
“Our music (now) is not representing the times — at least not socially and politically. Or maybe we’re just distracted.”
Rock the Vote aims to register 2 million young people to vote by November — the largest youth voter drive in history by three times, Smith said.
“These musicians speak to millions of people every day so for them to use their voices to inspire people is a key part of our program,” she said.
Anyone who recruits three people to vote will have to log onto the Rock the Vote website and go through a verification process before receiving Crow’s album.
Here goes Ben with the video thing again. But this time, you get to make the movie.
Ben Affleck and pal Matt Damon are teaming up with the MoveOn.org group for an “Obama in 30 Seconds” ad contest. Starting on March 27th, anyone is invited to submit a 30 second television ad to convince people to vote for Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama.
Entries will be judged by Matt, Ben, and other celebs such as Adrian Grenier and Russell Simmons.
This time it was Barak Obama and Bill Clinton. And this time it was for a Grammy award and not for the presidency.
Obama won a Grammy for best spoken word album for his book The Audacity of Hope: Thoughts on Reclaiming the American Dream. He beat out former presidents Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter as well as Alan Alda and Maya Angelou.
Now that Cher is getting ready for a comeback, we need to prepare for her commenting on other worldly stuff as well. She recently spoke to TV’s Extra about her thoughts on the presidential candidates and pretty much said who she’s rooting for.
She said “I like Hillary. I think she’d make the best president. I think [Barack]’s a good man. I think he’s altruistic. I think he’s smart. I think at some point he can be a great leader. I just don’t think it’s now.” What do you think? Is Cher a good judge of character or just being a feminist?
