Actress Cate Blanchett suffered from a head injury after she was hit by a prop at a live performance.

Blanchett was struck hard by a radio while on stage acting in A Streetcar Named Desire at The Sydney Theatre Company.

The radio that hit the 40-year-old was thrown by her cast member, Joel Edgerton, and although part of the script, left Cate with a sore head.

An audience member said: “She had blood streaming down the back of her head and blood on the back of her neck.”

The witness added: “She acted for about another 30 seconds, then ran into what we thought was the next scene, but before we knew it, the lights were turned on and we were told there were technical difficulties and everyone had to evacuate the Sydney Theatre Company.”

Sienna Miller bears no grudge against Cate Blanchett over her forfeiting of the Maid Marian role in the upcoming film Robin Hood.

“Cate’s 10 years older than me, which is more suitable for the script,” the actress has told a movie magazine.

“The script kept changing and evolving to the point where I was no longer appropriate for it.”

Miller was to have played the merry maid opposite Russell Crowe as Robin. The Ridley Scott-directed film has been shooting most recently on the Welsh coast.

“If they’d recast with Keira Knightley I’d have been heartbroken,” Miller said, “but they’ve gone for something different – and better in my opinion … If I had the choice between Cate Blanchett and me I’d go for Cate Blanchett.”

She also pointed out that other actors were swapped as the film developed. “There were several people supposed to be doing the film who no longer are but because it’s me it becomes this enormous drama – I think it’s a Sienna thing! …. There’s just a vendetta against … I don’t know.”

The film’s Sydney premiere was led by “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” lead star Brad Pitt who came dressed in old Hollywood glamour with his partner Angelina Jolie. Pitt’s parents were also there to support him.

The Australian actress, who just got her star, recently attended the special ceremony where she was declared the 2,376th person to get the much-coveted star. Along with her are her family and friends including Steven Spielberg.

Blanchett is one of several actors to portray an aspect of Dylan’s life. Cate Blanchett has been named best actress at the Venice Film Festival for her role in the biopic of Bob Dylan, I’m Not There.
The actress has been hotly tipped to be nominated for an Oscar for her performance in the Todd Haynes film. Brad Pitt was named best actor for his role in The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Harold Ford.
Ang Lee’s Se, Jie (Lust, Caution) won the Golden Lion for best film – after his 2005 win with Brokeback Mountain.
Lee’s sexually explicit thriller is set in Shanghai during World War II.
It tells the story of an idealistic young acting troupe who devise a plot to assassinate a Chinese official collaborating with the Japanese.
Lee said he was dedicating his prize to Ingmar Bergman, the Swedish director who died in July at age 89.
Neither Blanchett nor Pitt were at the awards ceremony but the actress sent a note of thanks.
“I’m sorry I can’t stand here throwing my arms around Todd, weeping just like a woman,” she said in a statement.
In I’m Not There, Blanchett is one of several actors to portray the singer Bob Dylan at various stages in his life. She plays the singer during his “folk-rock” years.
Director Haynes also went on to win a special jury prize for his film.
Pitt and his partner Angelina Jolie grabbed the headlines when they arrived at the festival earlier in the week.
But Pitt’s best actor win for his portrayal of legendary outlaw Jesse James came as something as a surprise.
It was his co-star, Casey Affleck, who played James’ killer Ford as a creepy social misfit, who had been widely expected to scoop the prize.
