Bette Midler has blasted singers including Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera for not showing any ‘emotion’ in their performances.

The musical legend – who is currently in Las Vegas completing her ‘Showgirl Must Go On’ residency – argues young stars need to put more depth into their shows.

She said: “They don’t speak. They don’t talk to their audience. They may say, ‘Hello, New York’ or ‘Hello, Las Vegas,’ in the beginning, and ‘Thank you’ in between songs, but they don’t talk. They don’t tell stories or take the time to make a connection, build a rapport. There’s no emotion.”

Bette also blamed music video channel MTV for encouraging people to lip-synch to their songs when performing ‘live’.

She added: “Video really did kill the radio star. After MTV came along, people were seeing their favorite singers in videos, and suddenly there was a certain vision of a song – how it should sound, how it should look. Then in concert, there was no room for improvisation – everyone wanted an exact replica.”

Christina Aguilera’s new ‘Rock the Vote’ public service announcement has just hit the airwaves. The 27-year old powerhouse singer is features cradling her now 6-month old son Max Liron, swaddled in the American flag, as she sings the a capella version of ‘America the Beautiful’. ‘Rock the Vote’ works to engage the youth in the political process by incorporating the entertainment community and youth culture into its activities. With the importance of this year’s elections, having some of the most influential figures for the younger generation featured in the PSAs should hopefully prove to be helpful.

Christina Aguilera does her best Jean Harlow impersonation as she poses for the new ads as the new face of London jeweler Stephen Webster. The sexy mama is looking even more fabulous in the new shots from the ad campaign. Webster styled the Grammy Award winning singer into an Alfred Hitchcock movie heroine. Her look definitely puts her in that type of setting. And much like Hitchcock’s penchant for depicting fear and fantasy, the ads are shot in both color and black and white. The singer also made a stop into Gucci for some extra shopping as paparazzi continued to get shots of her and her amazing cleavage – at least when they have a clear shot of it. There’s no doubt that it wasn’t just her cleavage which made jaws drop. I’m sure her credit card bill will too.

Christina Aguilera has a lot to celebrate about. On Tuesday, the singer celebrated her birthday with her husband Jordan Bratman in West Hollywood. They were spotted just as they were leaving Houston’s restaurant where they celebrated with friends.Come January 10, 2008, the 27-year old Christina will have more to celebrate when she gives birth via C-section. She’s reportedly narrowed down the names for her baby boy to Jackson, Jake or Max. She’s also requested an enlarged version of her November cover of Marie Claire which has her nude and showing off her baby bump. That’s a very high-end memento.

She checks out alright but she checks out her baby and not in the other sense of the phrase. A bundled up Christina Aguilera was spotted on a relatively mild evening in Los Angeles on Monday. The singer who’s rumored to be around six months pregnant was seen as she was about to leave a doctor’s office.

It’s being passed around that she and her husband Jordan are expecting a boy for their first child. If having guests from her baby shower showing up bringing blue and boy-themed gifts were any clue, it’s not just a rumor. She’s also reportedly planning to have two more baby showers. Why, not enough gifts from the first one?

Being pregnant is not something that would stop any expecting mommy from having fun on Halloween. Christina Aguilera is prime example of that when she came out to party as a Spider Queen with her husband dressing up as Count Dracula.

Christina Aguilera and Jordan Bratman might be expecting twins. I am currently pregnant with twins and am probably about as far along as Christina… We look very much the same in terms of fundal height (height of the top of the uterus). There’s not really any way to know for sure until she confirms it or gives birth, but I certainly would not be surprised. Well only the coming months will tell that whether or not she is having twins or not. By the way if we take past happenings into considerations then she is not going to give us a clue whether the physician or the gynecologist has confirmed anything of this sort or not.

The obviously, but unconfirmed, pregnant singer Christina Aguilera was seen picking up items at LA baby boutique Bel Bambini on Saturday. No clues still as to what she’s really having but hey, her being there is a big clue that she’s expecting. Do note the sarcasm.

But if all is right in this world, she will be having a girl. But doesn’t that mommy glow just say it. Granted, mommy does look like a drag queen most of the time, but come on!

Don’t tell me you can’t imagine her teaching her kid how to put a ton of make up on. My bet on the name: JonBenet!
