Simon Cowell’s mum has said she wants to see her son get married and settle down.

Simon, 50, is said to be getting serious with his new girlfriend, make-up artist Mezhgan Hussainy, 36, and there have been rumours about them getting engaged.

His mum Julie, 84, has said she would like to see her son with the right woman.

She said to UK newspaper The Sun: “I feel, as a mother, and like all parents do, that when their sons get to a certain age, particularly 50, we want to see them settled with a good woman.

“I could never really see Simon being committed like he is now. I would never have imagined that he would get married.”

Britain’s Got Talent judge Amanda Holden found herself eclipsed in the US by her protege, Susan Boyle.

Speaking of her time in the US, Holden discovered that name-dropping SuBo – the plain woman she plucked from anonymity – helped open doors.

Holden, who worked on the ITV-1 series Fantasy Lives, said: “To get into places, whenever they asked ‘Who is it for?’ I’d say, ‘Do you know Susan Boyle? I’m the judge on that show’.”

Holden added: “They would be like, ‘Oh my gaawwd! Wow, Susan Boyle!’ And we would be in. It’s amazing – she seems to have reached every corner of the world. I don’t think she realises her fame is growing. Susan has been in a little bubble in LA making her album and probably thinks the world has forgotten about her.”

Holden shared a moment she had with Piers Morgan at Simon Cowell’s home in Los Angeles, when the judges communed with the magic of SuBo. “Piers and I went to Simon’s house in LA and he put on Susan’s new track Wild Horses. We sat around his candlelit pool with it ringing out into the dark night. I had goose pimples. I expected Susan to be good – but I didn’t expect the song choice to be so genius and to suit her so well. It was a cross between Kate Bush and Barbra Streisand.”

Simon Cowell’s star-studded 50th birthday bash offered up inflatable female genitalia complete with vibrators.

Celeb guests Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, Ozzy Osbourne and David Walliams were reported to find the installation amusing. Other A-listers to attend the 400-guest VIP soiree in exclusive Wrotham Park, Hertfordshire included Gordon Ramsay and Dannii Minogue.

The million-pound bash, billed as the party of the year, was held inside a giant white marquee.

The tabloid queen, Katie Price, was said to have made a late appearance, intoxicated. Cowell was said to have sent her on her merry way after she bee-lined for the top table.

One of the party’s organisers said: “It was a great night. Absolutely no expense was spared and the whole thing cost a cool £2million. Over £220,000 was spent on fine wines alone.”

Another source said: “It was typical Simon – cheeky and fun with one surprise after another. Everyone sat on velvet chairs and were given a choice of fish fingers and mushy peas or shepherd’s pie.”

Simon Cowell could take British talent show The X Factor to American TV, according to reports.

Simon, 49, has one last year left on his contract with FOX’s top show, American Idol. The music mogul has made clear his wish to take The X Factor to the US, however his contract with Idol does not allow it.

It is claimed by The Hollywood Reporter that if a new contract is made, then Simon could co-produce The X Factor for FOX and also do American Idol through the 2011-12 season.

Simon is reportedly set to make $50 million for each season of Idol as well as another $50 million for each series of The X Factor.

It is not known if Simon will be a judge on the new show like he is on the British version.

American Idol host Ryan Seacrest has claimed he is the reason that Simon Cowell isn’t attending the Emmys.

Ryan, 32, who also presents a morning radio show on LA radio station KIIS FM, is up for the Outstanding Reality Host award at the bash and Ryan said Simon, 49, isn’t attending in case he wins the award.

He said: “Simon has placed himself as far away from Los Angeles on Emmy night as possible, just in case I happen to get lucky enough to win one.

“He’s confirmed he will be in London just so he’s not there in case of the little possibility that I walk away with it.”

However Ryan has already planned what he will do to let Simon know if he wins the award.

He said: “I’m going to celebrate by Twitpic-ing my gold statue to him.”

Simon Cowell has revealed that this year’s X Factor auditions will be held in front of a live audience for the first time.

The judge told GMTV said: “I like the idea that I’ve got a couple of thousand people behind me and you can take a lead from them. I think things have changed dramatically in the last few months and I think for the performers on X Factor, not to give them a chance to audition in front of a crowd, it just didn’t seem fair.”

Cowell admitted that because of this year’s Britain’s Got Talent auditions, he’s realised a live audience will be needed.

He said: “I’ve kind of got over this, ‘we should be the only ones in judgement’. I don’t feel that way anymore. I literally did this at the last second, changed my mind.

“Luckily we work with a great team of people who can do things quickly but they had to build a set. This is going to be like going to a concert now. We’ve had to build a stage, a set, everything, and we’re going to give the contestants a chance now to perform on stage for the first time.”
